matt-scratchAfter 15 years of operating successful food service businesses in the Miami Valley, Chef Matthew Hayden decided to create his dream business: Scratch Food. Between event catering and chef prepared meals, he blends both entrepreneurship and culinary creativity into an institution that contributes to a more vibrant, healthier and delicious Dayton.

Since its creation in 2010, Scratch Food has earned a reputation as an innovative, forward-thinking company with unforgettable food. We have had the honor of catering such flagship events as ARC Ohio’s “party of parties”, Masquerage, for nearly a decade. This dynamic event boasts an attendance of 900+ and requires an eclectic menu of themed stations and innovative appetizers. ScratchFood also caters Antioch College’s Reunion Weekend, a celebration which demands servicing the nutritional needs of hundreds of guests with four meals a day for three days straight. These meals are all served from a portable kitchen in a tent on campus. Breakfast through dinner, the attendees are provided with unique, world class menus and vegetarian fare. Chef Matthew proudly offers his talents to his native city and devotes a healthy amount of time to the community. He supports numerous non-profit services in Montgomery County as well as being an ardent patron of the local arts.

Marshall-scratchIn 2011 Scratch Food secured another great culinary talent to join the team – Chef Marshall Bartley. Chef Marshall began his culinary journey in Dayton many years ago as one of the youngest Executive Chefs for Dayton’s legendary NCR Country Club. Since then, Chef Marshall has honed his talent all over the United States at such notable country clubs as Wetherington Golf and Country Club in West Chester, Ohio and Annapolis Yacht Club in Maryland. Chef Marshall took the cutting edge food of Chef Matthew and elevated it to another level.

In 2012, Scratch Food embarked on its most ambitious endeavor to date. After being introduced to a newly formed charitable organization The Pink Ribbon Girls, we began providing nutritional support to members of the organization on the difficult journey through breast cancer. It took nearly a year of development, but we created a cutting edge model of nutrition that benefits cancer patients as well as reducing risk of numerous other lifestyle dependent diseases, most notably Type II Diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

We accommodated this growing demand for nutrient dense, locally sourced prepared meals by re-organizing their corporate structure and separating the two arms of the company into Scratch Events and Meals from Scratch.

Whether it is high volume, imaginative catered events, or individualized meals to treat a growing trend of lifestyle associated diseases – Scratch Food puts its heart and its back into its work.
