Dayton Knockout 2012

Matt Hayden

For those of you who missed Dayton Knockout at Memorial Hall, here is my humble attempt at summarizing…. Dayton History and ARC Ohio teamed up to dream up a one of a kind fundraiser centered around boxing. In collaboration with Drake’s Gym downtown – they set out to fight the good fight and enlisted the participation of a number of Dayton’s most benevolent V.I.P’s, Non-Profiteers and otherwise power net workers. With a turn of the century look, real boxing and roughly 1000 in attendance, the event was buzzing with energy and undoubtedly surpassed expectations.  I know that we at  Scratch appreciated the great camaraderie and hospitality provided us by the volunteers and staff of both ARC and Dayton History.  Only time will tell if the event will become a tradition or no – we certainly hope so.

As far as our eats went, we served some period food with “Knockout Beef Sliders”.  We marinated Top Round Roasts for hours, rubbed them down with a proprietary blend of seasonings (thanks Chef Jose of Culp’s Cafe) and slow cooked them for nearly 8 hours.  Sliced thin and served in their own decadent pan juices with some Provolone and few of our famous fried sweet potato balls. We also fired off our unique “Far East Black Cherry Teriyaki Chicken Skewers” and for dessert – “Two Bite Mini Bundt Cakes in Chocolate, Red Velvet, Carrot and Pineapple Upside Down.

Hope to see you all at the next big event
